Workshop on Internet Archiving in Ireland
Exploring the Potential of Social Semantic Information Sources for Internet Archiving
Date
18 August 2006 10.30am-5.30pm
Venue
Members Room, Royal Irish Academy, 19 Dawson St., Dublin
Goal
To begin building a collaborative network that will work to develop Internet archiving in Ireland over the coming years and will work to build international links in the area. It is intended that such a network would be an important foundation stone for the development of Irish participation in collaborative funding bids on a European and international scale over the coming years
Meeting
Lunch and refreshments will be provided but participants are expected to cover their own travel costs. Participants in the workshop will be asked to give a short presentation, no more than ten minutes long, outlining relevant developments in their institution and/or their own areas of interest and concern in relation to Internet archiving. A full agenda and timetable for the workshop will be distributed to participants in advance.
Agenda
Topics for discussion at the workshop might include some or all of the following. Participants are invited to suggest further items for discussion.
- Assessing the need, and identifying the priorities for Internet archiving in Ireland
- Assessing the state of play: current initiatives in Ireland; relationships with initiatives outside Ireland.
- Technical issues: priorities and needs in relation to the technology.
- Developing procedures for making decisions on what to archive
- Funding approaches: building a network for co-operation on Internet Archive funding proposals
- Developing a medium term strategy to build interlinked and complementary services
- International co-operation: developing a longer-term strategy to become part of a European network that can apply for funding for larger-scale European initiatives.
