eLearning Cluster GUI Meeting Minutes

Present: Wladyslaw Bultrowicz, Edward Curry, Maciej Dabrowski, Sebastian Ryszard Kruk, Mark Leyden, Bill McDaniel, Krystian Samp

I. Purpose

The goal of the meeting was to discuss the current state of GUI-related research within the eLearning cluster.

II.Discussion

Cluster GUI Strategy

• GUI research should remain unrestricted with respect to technology.

• Deliverables from the cluster need to target webapps.

• Need for common notion of GUI events and actions.

• GUIs should not embed application logic and follow a MVC approach.

Technology Discussion

• Python unsuitable for webapps

• Speed issues associated with JavaScript/canvas for Graphical Intensive User Interface (GIUI)

• Tentative consensus on Flash as suitable technology for GIUI

II. Action Items

• Define common elements between the radial/atom UI and HoneyComb UIs.

• Evaluate Flash and Flex as a cluster technology choice for GIU

• Flex License for DERI

III. Open Items

• What flash skills are currently available within the cluster?
