Polish Heritage Park in Olsztyn
Heritage Park in Olsztyn is one of the most famous treasures of polish cultural heritage. Dated 850 A.D. it is considered one of the oldest settlements established by the tribes in the region of central Europe. Apart from the interesting architectural elements the manor took part in many important events in the history of Poland.
Description
There are three main buildings located in the area of the park: <the windmill>, <the nobleman's manor> and <the carpenter's workshop>. <The windmill> is located on the left-hand side of the park. Dated 1450 A.D., it probably was built by the settlers from the Nederlands that came to the region in late 14th century. <The nobleman's manor> first built in early 13th century, rebuilt many times, until finally finished in the late 19th century. The manor is located in the center of the park. With the windmill on the left and the old shed on the right. The shed is said to be one of the first carpenter's workshops in the region. In the center of the park, left from the nobleman's house one can find a relict of the age of the settlers - a horse <wagon>.
<The carpenter's workshop> that previously was used as a shed, became one of the fundamental growth factors of the region. The production required a supplies of a huge amount of wood. To assure the sufficient amount of this material. That forced the carpenter to arrange the <lumber yard> in front of the workshop. It provided enough storage space to store sufficient amount of wood.
History
Heritage Park in Olsztyn reveals many secrets of Polish history. It was established by a group of the settlers that came from the West of Europe in the 6th century. High influence of the western culture can be noticed in both the architecture and the placement of the buildings in the park. <The windmill> is very simillar to the windmills typical for the regions of the Western Europe.
In this park one can also find an artifact very important for the cultural heritage of Poland - a 300 years old flag. It is placed in front of the house on the right side of the entrance door. <The flag> was used in the greatest rebellion that took place in 1879. Polish noblemen stood against the opposition in the country and fought bravely to regain freedom. The sentence "W imie Boga za nasza i wasza wolnosc" (In the name of the God, for our and your freedom) tells a lot about the cause of this rebellion and sacrifices of a brave men that fought then.
